How did you neglect to bash New Jersey on this subject? Weird, as I am writing this I just got a call from a guy named Vincent down in Newark..he said I better watch it. Now I see why you left them out.

As a (now expatriated) New Yorker, I have to agree with you - we all do LOVE diners and tricked-out lobby decor aside, there is good reason for it. Most of us fondly recall our teenage years spent eating cheese fries and/or pancakes (oddly, sometimes together)at 2am with our friends, or trying to seem grown up and drinking way too much coffee in an effort to impress the cute guy/girl in the next booth. Not to mention that it was the best place to loiter EVER!! Now, as a full grown card-carrying adult, I still harbor a bottomless sweet spot for diners and will defend their maple syrup covered feta-cheese loving honor for ever!!!
